What are the physics involved in hitting the open end of the tube?
I'm curious to an equation for determining the resonant frequency a beaten, open end tube. I suppose the equation has to have variables such as speed of sound, or mass and density, the length of the tube, OD, thickness wall. Any help would be appreciated.
Let the length of the tube is L open at both ends. Then the wavelength, lambda could be such that: L = lambda / 2 or Lambda = 2L which leads to the fundamental frequency for given by = V / (2L), where V is the speed of sound or first harmonic, L = lambda or f1 = V / L or 2 * [V / (2L)] similarly second-harmonic-L = [3 * (lambda)] / 2 or lambda = (2L) / 3 and F2 = 3 * [V / (2L)] and so on fn of for the nth harmonic frequency would be given by fn = (n +1) * [V / (2L)
